Indigenous Youth and Young Adult Programs

Various programming for indigenous youth and young adults.
The following programs are offered:
  • All Nations Youth Safe House (ANYSH): A 30-day home-like space that is safe, comfortable and caring when youth ages 16-18 are enduring times of hardship. ANYSH is staffed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, even Christmas and New Years. Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth are welcomed. Self-referrals welcomed.
  • Canada Learning Bond Navigator: Provides eligible children with an initial $500 offered by the Government of Canada to help start saving for a child’s education after high school. An eligible child could also get $100 every year until the age of 15. In total, up to $2000 from the CLB can be received in Registered Education SavingsPlan (RESP).
  • Indigenous Youth Urgent Needs Worker: Provides outreach support to vulnerable youth (16-24 yrs old) who are at risk of becoming street entrenched. Staff support youth through cultural connections, advocacy, referrals, accompaniment, coaching, mentoring and emotional support, supporting access to: income, health services, mental health support, addictions support, shelter options, job support and housing supports.
  • Indigenous Youth Outreach & Empowerment Team: Provides street outreach services and weekly 1-1 support to youth 13-18 years old who are, or are at risk of becoming, street entrenched or who have already engaged in high-risk behavior. Working from a harm reduction approach, we provide non-judgmental support and help youth access services and resources to find housing or employment, return to their families or caregivers, enroll in school or training, positively address alcohol and drug issues, and other issues and concerns. MCFD referrals required.
  • First Response Youth Addictions Outreach Program: Provides outreach services to at-risk, vulnerable youth under the age of 19, who may be at high risk for substance use, overdose, and homelessness. Services are provided 7 days a week in Surrey. Staff connects youth to services such as: programming, treatment centres, cultural supports, medical facilities, detox, safe consumption sites, youth addiction programs and follow up services. Staff also provides naloxone training and other health promotion/harm reduction supports to help vulnerable youth make healthier choices for themselves.
  • Surrey Indigenous Youth Advisory Committee: Empowers youth, through arts and culture, to be advocates, leaders and facilitators in their community. Through partnerships, we enable culturally relevant, evidence-based leadership opportunities to empower the Surrey Indigenous youth voice to inform policy and programming for future generations.
  • Youth Culture Night: Weekly Monday night dinners for young people age 13-30 to get together over dinner, arts and cultural activities.
  • Indigenous Youth Connections Program: A weekly drop-in program and activities led by Elders and facilitators. The program aims to assist urban Indigenous youth age 15-24 explore their full potential and develop strategies for personal growth, which in turn, enhances their ability to successfully integrate into education, employment, and community opportunities.
