Provides quality training and access to employment opportunities for Indigenous persons.
Sto:lo Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training is the Service Canada Indigenous Skills & Employment Training Program (ISETP) agreement holder contracted to implement the ISETP Agreement for Indigenous people located in the Fraser Valley catchment area. Service delivery is provided to the Indigenous peoples residing from Katzie to Boston Bar and three First Nation communities which are part of the Lower Stl’atl’imx Tribal Council (LSTC): Samahquam, Skatin and Xa’xtsa.

The overall goal of Stó:Lō Aboriginal Skills & Employment Training is to create and refer participants to quality training and access to employment opportunities for Indigenous persons residing in our catchment area through a process of identifying client need and addressing those needs through effective program delivery. The following programs are offered:
  • Employment Assistance Services: Provides assistance with job search, and provides education and training.
  • Student Employment Program (SEP): Assists eligible students to prepare for future entry into labour market/ The program focuses on providing work experience and developmental learning for in-school youth through the provision of a wage subsidy to employers. Must be First Nations/Inuit, status/non-status, reside on or off reserve, within SASET catchment area. Should be minimal 15 years of age and returning to school. The program duration is 8 weeks for secondary students and 13 weeks for post-secondary students. The application process is detailed online.
  • Targeted Wage Subsidy: Provides an employment opportunity for an unemployed eligible participant who requires assistance to overcome existing or anticipated labour market barriers. And provides a wage subsidy, employment related costs and related training dollars for an unemployed eligible participant. This opportunity may lead to continued employment with the sponsor, or a full-time employment opportunity. More information is available online.
