- Bookworm Friends: Connecting children with adults to share the joys of reading, volunteers read with individual children, small groups, daycares, or classes in-person or online once a week. This free program fosters positive literacy experiences.
- “Read While You Wait” Ladybug Book Bins: Bins of gently used children’s books are available at various locations throughout Chilliwack. These bins, marked by their joyful wooden ladybug design, provide books for young children to enjoy with their parents or caregivers while waiting for services.
- StoryWalk®: StoryWalk® combines reading with physical activity. Laminated pages from a children’s book are displayed along a path, letting participants follow the story as they walk, promoting literacy, family engagement, and exercise. Materials can be borrowed for your own StoryWalk®.
- Adult Learning Services: Adults 19 and older can work weekly with a trained volunteer tutor - usually one-to-one and sometimes in groups - to build basic academic or digital skills, get support with upgrading or Adult Dogwood studies, and pursue personalized learning goals at no cost.
- English as an Additional Language (EAL) Services: A variety of English learning options are available for visitors, temporary workers, international students, permanent residents, and Canadian citizens.
- Technology Training for Seniors: Silver Surfers is perfect for seniors who would like to learn how to use their tablets, laptops, and cell phones. Helps seniors with surfing the internet, setting up email accounts, video chats, playing online games, downloading apps, and much more.
- Understanding Money: This financial literacy program offers groups personalized tutoring and workshops on how to better manage money, understand mortgages, avoid debt, or how to tackle other financial questions.
- Ink & Imagination Intergenerational Journaling: A free program for Chilliwack youth and older adults, offering a creative space to explore different journaling techniques, practice mindfulness, and build confidence - all while connecting with others. Participants will receive free journaling kits and refreshments. Sessions are 1.5 hours and held weekly in the evenings. Flexible attendance means you can join when it works best for you—no commitment to every session required. Sessions are available both online and in-person (location TBD).
