Provides settlement services for new immigrants, refugees, and refugee claimants
MCSS welcomes newcomers to Canada by offering personalized support as they begin their new lives in Canada.The free services help newcomers transition smoothly into everyday life. MCSS Settlement team facilitates the integration process for immigrants and refugees by providing:

Services provided:
  • Information about English language programs (LINC)
  • Information about accessing no/low-cost medical/dental clinics
  • Community resource links to information about landlord/tenant rights
  • Information about community volunteering and/or paid positions
  • Information about how to take public transit, purchase transit tickets and passes, and obtain transit maps
  • Information about where and how to obtain a driver’s licence and assist with forms
  • Information about where to apply for income assistance
  • Assisance with setting up bank accounts and other banking services if required
  • Outreach to all newly-arrived families
  • Information and Orientation sessions
  • Referral links to appropriate community resources
Monthly English Conversation Circle: Each month a unique topic is discussed that addresses the clients’ needs. Experts from various fields are invited to do presentations on topics such as Health and Nutrition, Parenting for Newcomers, and Finances, etc.

Canadian Citizenship Info Session: Settlement workers hold Citizenship sessions four times per year. The session covers qualifying criteria, the application process, and online support

Newcomer Women’s Peer Support Program: This program provides a safe, welcoming and confidential space for women to share their settlement experience with other women while learning new skills and practicing Eglish

Youth Groups, Workshops, and Activities: This program provides a safe space for youth groups to meet regularly, and to provide newcomer youths a chance to share their ideas and experiences. In addition to regular Youth Group meetings, the program offers workshops and tailored activities such as leadership building

Homework Club: Homework Club is a place to help newcomer children on their path to graduation and strong futures by providing free support to students who need additional academic support on a wide range of subjects. They also provide a place for students to connect with friends and with supportive adults; a place to feel safe and comfortable; and a place to receive mentoring in life skills.
