Immigrant and Refugee Services
Provided by Chilliwack Community Services
Settlement Services: Provide information and referrals, assessments and action plans for immigrants and their families to help them understand and successfully navigate BC's social and economic systems. Additional services provided include:
- Job search assistance
- Workshops for topics such as computer skills, citizenship, and driving test preparation
- Field trips to local community amenities, including library, health, education, recreation, and cultural facilities
- Assistance in completing forms and applications (medical care card, driver license, social insurance number, citizenship, passport)
- Conversation circles, orientation sessions on topics including housing, health care, education, banking, recreation, and leisure activities
- Interpretation and translation services, available in more than fifteen languages. Please note that this service is offered on a case-by-case basis - contact for more information
English Language Classes: Classes are available throughout the year from September to June for immigrants aged 17 years and older. An application and assessment are also required.
- Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC): English language instruction within the context of day to day life skills is provided to adult immigrants to assist them to settle successfully and participate in all aspects of Canadian society as quickly as possible
- Childcare is available for morning LINC students with children 19 months to 5 years, with qualified staff providing culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate care
- Free Drop-in Conversational English: This is the only language support available to visitors, or other newcomers who do not meet the qualifications for other Chilliwack Community Services English classes
Chilliwack Local Immigration Partnership (LIP): Creates awareness of services for newcomers in Chilliwack while building relationships and connections across the community.
