Career Cafe - An Employment Program for Individuals Facing Barriers to Work

The Career Cafe service clients who face multiple barriers and who are unemployed or precariously unemployed looking for work. They provide one-on-one workshops and job matching supports with incentives. They will also pay for some supports including some transportation and funding for any Short-Term Certificate Training needed for employment.
The Career Cafe has a Cell phone Care Connections program where they offer free cell phone with 4 month top ups to those who have no call phone and offer laptop loans for employment search. They also have on site a Queer Mentor and Indigenous Elder in office each week. Along with our Mental Health First Aid Facilitator. They connect clients with Mental Health referrals and work with their sister Literacy program Read Right Society and Hope Work BC office who also fall under the Free Rein Associates umbrella contracts.
To be eligible individuals must:
- Reside in BC
- Must be unemployed or precariously unemployed
- Face two barriers: Housing, recovering from Addictions, Criminal Record, new Canadian, no Canadian work experience, less than grade 12 education, survivor of domestic violence, have a self identified disability, lack of basic work experience, limited literacy or digital literacy, order worker, or young adult at risk.
This program serves residents of Harrison Mills, Agassiz, Laidlaw area, Hope, Sunshine Valley, Manning Park, Yale, Spuzzum, and Boston Bar.
