Recreation, Peer Support Groups and Respite Program for Children/Youth with Developmental Disabilities - Chilliwack

Provides a wide variety of services to children and youth with special needs.
Wide variety of services are offered to children and youth with special needs and developmental disabilities.

Referral from a Social Worker from the Ministry of Children & Family Development – Child & Youth with Special Needs Division (MCFD-CYSN) is required.

Child & Youth Services provides services after school hours and on Weekends (September – June) and daytime hours, Monday – Friday during the summer months (July & August).

Programs and Services consist of:

- Children’s Community Respite (birth through 18 years old): Provides parents and primary caregivers with a needed break from the responsibilities of full-time care-giving. Children with special needs have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of experiences that promote growth and development outside the family unit.
- Kidz Club (6 to 12 years old): After school program where children spending time with peers in a social environment, appropriate relationship building, friendships, and community access. Children usually attend one day per week. The program is offered between September – June, Tuesdays through Fridays.
- Summer 'Scapes Day Camp (6 to 12 years old): Summer day camp program for children 6 to 12 years of age for all children (regardless of disabilities)
- Teen Clubs (13 to 18 years old): Teen Clubs are offered year-round to youth between the ages of 13-18 years of age in the Chilliwack Community. Between September – June, teen clubs are offered after school hours (between 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM), Tuesdays – Saturdays. During the summer months (July and August), teen clubs are offered during daytime hours from Monday – Friday. Clubs consist of singing, drama, cooking, dance, eco-warriors, GIRLS ONLY, craft and recreation.
- 1:1 supports (6 to 18 years old): Provide 1:1 support for children/youth in a variety of settings and pursuits, addressing their specific needs and goals. Child/Youth Care Workers provide support for a contracted number of hours each week, for a limited time period, based on the family’s and child/youths' circumstances and needs.
- LEAP (15 to 18 years old): Youth between the ages of 15 and 18 are offered the opportunity to develop a plan towards achieving their transition goals, the things they would like to achieve as they move on from Child and Youth Services. Training is provided to develop life skills, independent living and job searching.
- Hope Summer Program (6 to 18 years old): Similar to the Summer 'Scapes Program. This program is for children/youth who live in the Agassiz & Hope communities. The program is operated out of Grace Baptist Church. There is a registration fee each semester, and sometimes there are additional activity costs.
- Respitality Program: Provides parents of a child with a disability a chance for rest and rejuvenation in a welcoming and comfortable environment while their child receives respite care. Participating parents in this program receive a complimentary overnight stay for two in a hotel, bed-and-breakfast or resort, which may include meals.
